Our Team

Kenia Wellness was founded by Dr. Kenia on the idea that both clients and clinicians deserve more. More time, more connection, and more humanity; without these it is difficult to truly access the life changing help that can be found through psychiatry and psychotherapy.

Dr. Kenia

PSYCHOANALYST & PSYCHIATRIST

Doctorate Level Clinician

Dr. Kenia is trained in both medication management and talk therapy to treat adult disorders. In addition to her medical degree and training as a psychiatrist she has completed extensive training to become a psychoanalyst and can provide psychoanalysis - a specialized form of talk therapy. She believes in a holistic approach that takes the entire person into account both present and past, taking time to make thoughtful and individualized suggestions.

  • I believe those of us trying to make sense of our identity, our suffering, and our pain deserve to have a space where we can be heard and seen, perhaps even fall apart if needed. This is what I aim to provide, as this is how we begin to heal.

Sessions with me are a mixture of open and interactive dialogue, allowing us to find the right balance together. Each person is different so the approach will be custom to the individual. Most people seeing me for psychotherapy commit to 1-2 sessions a week, which provides the consistency necessary to start to understand the complexities of each person’s experience. Some may also choose to pursue a deeper experience through psychoanalysis with 3-4 sessions a week. We also have the option of adding medication to the treatment, but it is not a requirement. While I can prescribe medication, I believe this should be completely your choice and only if necessary.

Together we can work towards expanding your experiences; both by understanding your past and finding new ways to interact with your present.

  • As a medical student, I was most drawn toward psychiatry, and as a psychiatrist, I am most drawn towards psychoanalysis. Both are reflections of my interest in the human experience and my curiosity about people and their journeys. My training in both fields allows me to take an approach that considers the whole person: body, mind, past, and present.

I received my medical degree from SUNY Upstate University in Syracuse, NY over ten years ago. Since then, I have completed my residency in adult psychiatry at Mount Sinai St. Luke's. As a psychoanalyst, I dedicated myself to additional training in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis through the William Alanson White Institute. I have worked and trained in a variety of settings and I am comfortable and passionate about treating depression, anxiety, trauma, issues related to identity, as well as many other difficulties.

As the former Medical Director of the Center for Intensive Treatment of Personality Disorders (CITPD) at Mount Sinai West, I have a background in helping those with personality disorders as well as those with histories of trauma.

Having spent time as a psychiatrist at NYU Counseling and Wellness Services, I have a special interest in the unique struggles of young adults and those in academia.

I am active and passionate about the education of psychiatry residents and psychotherapists in training. I currently teach at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and provide individual supervision for City College as well as the William Alanson White Institute.

Ramya

PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Masters Level Clinician

Ramya Chunduri is a trained psychotherapist who received her Master of Science in Advanced Clinical Social Work from Columbia University on a health, mental health, and disabilities track. She approaches psychotherapy with a mix of active listening and observations creating a safe space where you can be sure you will be heard.

  • I have always been drawn to the stories of individuals- what makes us who we are. That innate curiosity along with my desire to help others, and to reduce mental health stigma inspired me to become a therapist. I began my journey at Columbia University’s school of Social Work. As a post-graduate fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center I gained experience and comfort working with those experiencing chronic and terminal illnesses. I helped support patients and their families during some of life’s hardest moments. Post graduation I worked in a variety of settings with a diverse range of clients including those struggling with grief, complex family situations, and relationship struggles. I have a special interest in working with the South Asian and BIPOC population.

I have specific training in: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Complicated/Prolonged Grief Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness and Trauma Informed practices, and Motivational Interviewing techniques.
